How to Find Computer’s IP Address on Windows

Sometimes, you might need to find your computer's IP address when you set up an Internet connection or home network, or need to troubleshoot a network problem. Finding an IP address on Windows is simple. The following are two methods of how to find your computer's IP address in Windows:

Method 1 - Find IP Address on Windows by Checking Network Connection

Step 1: Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type adapter, and then, under Network and Sharing Center, click View network connections.

Step2: Select an active network connection, and then, in the toolbar, click View status of this connection.

Step 3: Click Details. You will see your computer's IP address appearing in the Value column, next to IPv4 Address.

Method 2 - Find IP Address on Windows with a Command Prompt

Step 1: Click Start button, then click "Run".

Step 2: Type "cmd" in the box and click "OK". The command prompt will pop up in a new window.

Step 3: Enter "ipconfig" into the command prompt. Hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard. You will see multiple lines of information containing your IP address, something like 192.168.0.10. For Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista, it will be labeled as "IPv4 address." For Windows XP, it will be labeled as "IP address."
